Four phases,
usually 2–5 days

Every migration is handled by our team, not left to you and a plugin. You keep publishing on your current CMS the entire time.

1

Discovery call

A 30-minute call where we review your current CMS, article count, content types (live blogs, galleries, web stories), and any custom requirements — like taxonomy structure or author roles — before we touch anything.

2

Content migration

We export your articles, categories, tags, authors, and media library, then map and import them into PressTag. This runs against a staging copy — your live site keeps running on your current CMS throughout.

3

Redirects & frontend setup

Every old URL is mapped to its new PressTag slug and set up as an automatic 301 redirect, so your search rankings carry over. If you're keeping your existing frontend design, we connect it to the PressTag API with tenant routing.

Go live

Once staging is verified against your live site, DNS cutover typically takes about 15 minutes. Your editorial team can start publishing in the PressTag admin the same day.

Migration questions

How long does it actually take?
+

For publications under 20,000 articles, most migrations complete in 2–5 days from discovery call to go-live. Larger archives or complex custom content types may take longer — we'll give you a specific estimate after the discovery call.

Will my site go down during migration?
+

No. We migrate your content into PressTag on a staging environment while your existing site stays live. The only cutover moment is DNS, which typically takes about 15 minutes.

What happens to my search rankings?
+

PressTag tracks every old slug and serves automatic 301 redirects to its new location, so search engines see a clean redirect chain rather than broken links. This is exactly the approach we used migrating Sportzpoint.com's archive.

Can I migrate from something other than WordPress?
+

Yes. We've built migration paths for WordPress, Ghost, Contentful, and custom-built CMS platforms. Tell us what you're on during the discovery call and we'll confirm the approach.

Do I need to change my website's design?
+

No. PressTag is headless, so your existing frontend can stay exactly as it is — we connect it to the PressTag API rather than replacing your design.

Is migration free?
+

Migration is included at no extra cost on the Growth plan, and is part of every Enterprise plan. Talk to us during your demo for specifics on your plan.
