Overview
PressTag started with a very ordinary problem. We run Sportzpoint.com, a cricket and football news publication, along with several other digital publications, including TechScoper.com. Like most publishers, we began with WordPress because it's flexible, familiar, and the default choice for countless newsrooms.
But as our publications grew, so did the complexity of managing them. What began as a simple publishing platform gradually became harder to maintain, slower to evolve, and increasingly expensive to scale.
The Problem
Every new feature required another plugin. Every plugin introduced another dependency, another security update to monitor, another performance cost, and another opportunity for something to break. Making our websites truly reflect our own brand often meant involving developers for even small design changes.
We explored premium WordPress solutions, including WordPress VIP, but the pricing simply wasn't practical for an independent Indian publisher.
We then evaluated modern headless CMS platforms like Ghost and Contentful. While they solved some of WordPress's architectural limitations, they introduced new challenges of their own: enterprise-level pricing and a lack of publishing tools designed specifically for sports and news organizations.
Features such as live blogs for match days, web stories, image galleries, and high-volume editorial workflows either required custom development or weren't available in the way modern publishers actually needed them.
Building PressTag
Rather than continuing to compromise, we decided to build our own CMS.
Development began in 2025 with one clear objective: create a platform that is fast by default, affordable for Indian and independent publishers, and designed around the real workflows of modern digital newsrooms instead of relying on a marketplace full of plugins.
PressTag was built with native support for the content formats publishers actually use every day, including live blogs, web stories, image galleries, and large-scale article publishing.
Before introducing PressTag to anyone else, we migrated Sportzpoint.com onto the platform and operated our newsroom on it for eight months. During that process, we successfully migrated nearly 15,000 articles with zero downtime, proving the platform under real production conditions rather than controlled demonstrations.
Today
Today, PressTag powers our own publications every day. It has been tested through live editorial workflows, high-traffic match days, and thousands of published articles.
Having proven the platform in our own newsroom first, we're now opening PressTag to other publishers looking for a faster, modern, and more affordable alternative to WordPress and enterprise headless CMS platforms.
